Join us on February 21st at 1:00 PM in the State Room at the Rhode Island State House as we commemorate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Military Order of Foreign Wars (MOFW). This special occasion will honor Admiral Stephen Bleecker Luce, the first Commander of the Rhode Island Commandery, and a visionary leader in U.S. naval history.
The Rhode Island Commandery was established on February 28, 1900, in Providence, with RADM Luce, a veteran of the Civil War and the founder of the U.S. Naval War College, leading its formation. Many of the original members were veterans of the Spanish-American War, and over the years, the Order has included those who served in every major conflict since.
In 1969, the MOFW extended its membership to veterans and their descendants who served in foreign wars or expeditions. Today, the Rhode Island Commandery proudly boasts 150 active members, the majority of whom reside in the state.
This historic event will recognize the enduring legacy of the MOFW and its commitment to honoring those who have served in the defense of our nation. We invite you to join us for a memorable ceremony at the State House as we celebrate this milestone and pay tribute to the men and women of the Military Order of Foreign Wars.
