RI Latino Arts: Barrio Tours

August 10 @ 5:30 pm - October 30 @ 6:30 pm

Learn about the history of Broad Street, dating back to the 1700s, and its transformation in the 1960s, when Latinos began to settle, rebuild, and make La Broa’ what it is today.

NOTE: We will be walking on busy sidewalks and crossing a highway overpass. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

Meet 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the grass area of the Roger Williams Park @Broad Street entrance. The address you can use to search is 1232 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02905, and the location where we will be meeting is across Broad Street.

Ample street parking is available on Miller Street or Broad Street, and also next to the tennis courts, just inside the park entrance.

Sun. June 18 • 11am-1pm – This is a walking tour, but you can also bring your bicycle and ride along.

Thu. July 20 • 5:30-7pm – This tour is part of Museo del Barrio | PVD 2023. At the end, be prepared to wind down an informal Bachata session at the Gateway Center @Broad Street.

Thu. Aug. 10 • 5:30-7pm – We will allow time during this tour to stop at any of the Chimi Trucks lined up on Broad Street.

Thu. Sept. 7 • 5:30-6:30pm – At the end of this tour, we will wind down with an informal Bachata session.

NOTE: We need at least six (6) people registered to hold each tour.
At the end of each tour, we will gather at the Roger Williams Park Gateway Center @Broad Street to reflect on the tour — what does Broad Street mean to you? Share your memories of Broad Street. Refreshments will be served.
