Footsteps to Freedom: A Walking Tour of Historic African American Life on College Hill with Ray Rickman

The Rhode Island Historical Society and Stages of Freedom will present Footsteps to Freedom: A Walking Tour of Historic African American Life on College Hill on Saturday, June 22nd, departing from the John Brown House Museum at 9am. Led by Stages of Freedom Executive Director Ray Rickman, the tour will share stories of Black success and resistance in Providence.

Rickman will highlight the stories of important Rhode Islanders who changed the course of history in the state, including Thomas Howland, the first elected African American man in Providence, Edward Bannister, the only Black founder of the Providence Art Club, and Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, the first Black woman graduate from RISD.

Tickets for the walking tour are $19 and are available here.
