While the American Revolution provides historical context for this years 250th anniversary of the United States, this exhibition broadens the conversation by exploring the meaning of freedom through Indigenous perspectives on land, responsibility, and enduring presence.

Visitors are invited to consider a central question: What does freedom mean, and who was it meant for? Through Indigenous voices and colonial-era documents, this exhibition highlights the starkly different understandings of land, service, liberty, and sovereignty.

This exhibition marks the first complete transformation of the museum’s gallery space since 1996. Designed by SmokeSygnals, the re-imagined gallery features immersive storytelling and a striking installation of life-sized figures set against a watercolor forest, symbolizing the enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land.
