In 1775, the British bombed Bristol. And then in 1778, the British, after landing on the shore up on Bristol Neck, marched through town, burning about 30 buildings on their way to Newport. The BH&PS is clebrating both through this fantastic weekend of events.
The United Train of Artillery, the Kingston Reds, the HM Tenth Regiment on Foot in America, and the 54th Regiment of Foot will all be in town to reenact the Bombardment of Bristol as well as the Burning of Bristol.
The weekend opens with an educational opportunity to join a sailing adventure from Newport to Bristol on board the Oliver Hazard Perry itself.
While docked in Bristol there will be a welcome reception, public tours of this Tall Ship, early morning coffees and personal tours with the Captain, a dockside sea chantay night with music by baritone David Coffin as well as The Whelks from Warren, a whiskey and rum tasting by Bristol distiller O’Brien and Brough, and even a hard cider tasting at the Society provided by Sowams Cider Works in Warren.
